About Us

Self Defense

BJJ has been proven in law enforcement, military, and mixed martial arts to let smaller practitioners neutralize larger opponents through leverage and control. Its focus on position and submissions enables effective self-defense without relying on striking.

Confidence

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu builds confidence by teaching students to overcome resistance and adversity in a controlled setting, proving to themselves that they can handle pressure. Progressing through ranks and applying techniques successfully against real opponents reinforces resilience and self-belief that carry into daily life.

Fitness

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu delivers a full-body workout that builds strength, endurance, and cardiovascular health. Consistent training is shown to burn fat, build muscle, and dramatically improve overall conditioning.

Reach Your Goals

Samurai Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was created to help students achieve their physical, mental, competition, and self-defense goals. Our school challenges members to push their limits, offering real rewards—confidence, tangible results, and the ability to defend oneself when needed. At Samurai BJJ, we do the hard work that leads to unmatched growth and achievement.

About Our Instructors

Andreh Anderson, head instructor at Samurai Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, began training in 1996 and earned his black belt in 2007 from Rey Diogo of the Carlson Gracie Team; he now holds a 4th degree black belt. With over 30 years of experience, he has competed at every level—including the first ADCC in 1998—fought in early MMA, coached top fighters in the UFC and Pride, and trained extensively in Brazil with the legendary Carlson Gracie. Now based in Prosper, Andreh shares his passion and expertise with students of all levels, supported by his wife Fernanda and their two children, Lucas and Sofia.

Brian Yi is a 2nd-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Coral Belt Master, Marcelo Alonso of the Carlson Gracie Team. Training since 2007, Brian has evolved from a dedicated competitor to a passionate instructor, now focused on mentoring his students--and his son, Noah--at Samurai Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

James Lee leads our kickboxing program and brings more than 25 years of world-class martial arts experience to Samurai Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He began with Taekwondo in Korea, then expanded into boxing and kickboxing. A 2nd-degree Krav Maga black belt with elite “Train the Trainer” certification, he has coached instructors across the U.S. and Australia. Now living in Prosper with his wife and two boys, James is proud to share his expertise with our students.

"We've been all over to different gyms, so far this is our favorite by far! Amazing training, and super humble people. It's always cool to meet people who are absolute killers in jiu-jitsu, and who are also very humble, and that's Samurai."

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and self-defense system that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. It emphasizes technique, leverage, and strategy over size and strength, making it effective for both kids and adults regardless of physical ability.

Do I need prior experience to start training?

Not at all! Our beginner-friendly classes are designed for people with no martial arts background. We teach fundamental movements, positions, and techniques step by step so everyone can feel comfortable and progress at their own pace.

What should I wear to my first class?

For your first class, comfortable athletic clothing (like a t-shirt and shorts or leggings without zippers) is fine. Once you enroll, you’ll need a BJJ gi (uniform) and a rashguard for no-gi classes. We’ll guide you on where to get them if you don’t have one already.

Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu safe for kids?

Yes. Our kids’ program focuses on discipline, respect, confidence, and physical fitness in a safe and structured environment. Techniques are taught in a controlled way, and safety is always the top priority. Kids also learn how to defend themselves responsibly.

How often should I train to see progress?

Consistency is key. Training 2–3 times per week is a great starting point for both kids and adults. You’ll build skills, improve fitness, and see steady progress. More frequent training is always welcome as long as your body feels good.

Who is the head instructor at Samurai Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Our head instructor, Andreh Anderson, is a 4th-degree black belt under Master Rey Diogo of the legendary Carlson Gracie Team. With over three decades of training, competition, and teaching experience, he brings authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu knowledge directly to Prosper, Texas.

What makes Samurai BJJ different from other schools?

We combine a world-class martial arts lineage with a family-friendly community. Students benefit from structured curriculums, personal attention, and a balance of traditional values (discipline, respect, perseverance) with modern training methods.

What is the Samurai BJJ teaching style?

Our classes emphasize practical self-defense, technical skill development, and fitness in a supportive environment. We focus on progressive learning, where students master fundamentals before moving to advanced techniques, ensuring confidence and safety at every step.

How does Samurai BJJ support beginners and advanced students?

Beginners receive step-by-step instruction to build a strong foundation, while advanced students are challenged with high-level techniques and strategies. Our structured curriculum ensures everyone progresses at their own pace, from white belt to black belt.

Why is lineage important in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Lineage connects students directly to the roots of the art. At Samurai BJJ, our lineage flows from Carlos Gracie → Carlson Gracie → Rey Diogo → Andreh Anderson. This direct connection ensures that our students learn authentic techniques and philosophy passed down through generations of champions and masters.

Do I have to sign a long-term contract?

No. At Samurai Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, we believe training should fit your life—not lock you in. All memberships are month-to-month, with no long-term contracts. To cancel, all we ask for is 30-day notice. For as long as you maintain your membership, your monthly tuition will not increase. If you need to take a break, you can pause your membership for just $30 per month, indefinitely, and return to training whenever you’re ready.
